Unlock the Power of YouTube with TrueView for Shopping

So you’ve been driving awareness of your new e-comm brand by running your slick new YouTube videos as ads on TrueView, and they’ve been producing some great results. That’s awesome! But do you wish that you could make TrueView work even harder for your brand and do more than just create awareness? Then you should be using TrueView for Shopping.

TrueView for Shopping harnesses the power of Google’s machine-learning technology and audience-matching algorithms to dynamically display your products alongside your ads to the most relevant audiences. This campaign type encourages engagement by combining the powerful reach and awareness of YouTube with the high-value conversions of a Google Shopping campaign. Below is a handy guide that will walk you through setting up your first TrueView for Shopping campaign.

1. Link Your Google Merchant Center Account to Google Ads

First, you will need to link your Google Merchant Center account to your Google Ads account. If you have already done this – you rock! Go ahead and skip down to #2.

To do this, you will need to first log in to your Merchant Center account, navigate to the 3-dot icon in the upper right-hand corner and click “Account linking” from the drop-down menu. Next, select “Google Ads,” enter your 10-digit Google Ads customer ID and click “Send Link Request.”

Next, you’ll have to approve the link request. To do this, log in to your Google Ads account and navigate to the Tools icon. Under Setup, click on “Linked accounts.”

This will take you to a new screen where you will see an option for Google Merchant Center. Click “Details” and find the account you are trying to link. Under the Actions column, click on “View details” and then choose “Approve.” You’re now ready to set up your campaign!

2. Create a New TrueView Campaign

So, now that you’ve got your Google Merchant Center account linked and a product feed all set up, you’re ready to set up your new campaign. (If you haven’t created a product feed yet, click here for more instructions.)

Start by clicking the new campaign button and selecting a video campaign from the menu of options. Under the campaign subtype, you should now have the option to select “Shopping.” Click that and search for your Merchant Center account.

After you name your campaign, you will then choose which of your products you want to show with your videos. You have the option to show all of your products and let Google decide which ones to display. You can also pick and choose by selecting each individual product, or select a filter and choose products with similar attributes.

Once you’ve chosen the products you want to display, run through the rest of your campaign set up. Set your budget, pick a campaign start and end date, choose your targeting parameters and decide which videos you want to run as ads. Set the campaign live, and you are now on your way to getting more out of your video advertising!
