We’re continuing our celebration of Women’s Small Business Month with Marsden Women and Family Health Care, a women’s primary care clinic in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Idaho ranks third, tied with Nevada, for women-owned businesses’ economic clout—defined by American Express as the growth in number of firms and growth in employment and revenue—between 2014 and 2019.
Health care is Elizabeth Marsden’s second career. Before going back to Idaho State University to become a nurse, and later to Georgetown University to advance her training and become a nurse practitioner, she managed a bank. It was the “easy, conventional route,” as Marsden recalls. The work was not satisfying, nor was she happy.
The experience did, however, empower her to write and implement a sound business plan for the clinic she opened in August 2019 in her hometown. In the clinic, and on occasional house calls, Marsden offers a more expansive approach to health care than women typically encounter.
Whereas, patient-provider clinic visits generally last seven and a half minutes, Marsden’s standard patient interactions last 30 minutes. She offers a holistic approach to diagnosis and treatment, and utilizes elements of Western medicine, nutritional science, acupuncture, physical therapy and palliative care (among other disciplines) to address patients’ health concerns and goals.
This patient care model is intentionally different. Marsden treats women’s health physically, mentally and emotionally, beginning with teens and sex education and extending through menopause and end-of-life. And like all entrepreneurs, Marsden is a zealot for constant improvement.
Daily, she interacts with other providers in her region, strengthening a network of health care professionals with whom she can partner to help patients achieve their goals. A new office manager recently joined the team, and an acupuncturist is coming soon.
The brand of Marsden Women and Family Health Care is confident and conscientious, somehow simultaneously traditional and progressive. We think it’s a brilliant brand, and we believe in what it’s doing in the world. Check it out today.
And remember, for yourself and/or the women in your life, it’s also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
