Today marks a momentous milestone for our agency—it’s the 50th anniversary of our founding.
It takes moxie to start any business, at any time, and it takes a special sort of grit to reach 50 years of business. Grit that is defined by a focus on always doing the next right thing, of providing a place for people to be their true and authentic selves, and by building relationships that matter, in both big ways and small ways. We have always given 100% of ourselves to the work we do.
Fifty years is a long time to be in business, which gives us the benefit of experience. In these uncertain times, I feel lucky to be surrounded by the team we have. Our experience in weathering storms of ALL kinds (although nothing quite like this) has provided us with the framework for our response to the current crisis facing the agency world.
Our commitment now and in the future is this: doing everything in our power to keep the team intact AND achieve the business goals we set to achieve for the year prior to COVID-19, which means partnering with our clients in meaningful ways that help their brands through the uncertainty they are each uniquely facing.
Because there is one thing that I know to be true: we are always at our best when we are not focusing on ourselves.
When my parents founded this agency in 1970, they did so with the vision that this would be a place where people could truly be their best selves. As our board chair, and agency co-founder Nechie Hall, recently said, “We’ve always had the good sense to hire really great people.” That business tenet established the foundation for the way we are today. Kindness, partnership and trust permeate our way of working…both within the walls of VJ and beyond.
Today, and despite the challenges that the entire industry is facing, we have never been more ourselves.
We are optimistic about the next 50 years.
